In the style of Pete Wells' New York Times review of Guy Fieri's Times Square restaurant from 2012, Charles presents his thoughts on 6x11:
"DAWSON’S CREEK, have you watched Day Out of Days? Did you turn on your TV? Did you watch the show? Did it live up to your expectations?
Did despair grip your heart when Jack only showed up for six minutes? Or when the days of the week started fading in and out for no apparent reason? Were you bewildered about Pacey and Emma’s relationship? Jen at The Stand?
Do you remember season one, when all the characters were likeable and got good screen time and you cheered for all of them? (You must you sure referenced them a bunch this episode.) What accounts for the difference?"
End scene.
Also! It's the return of What Pacey Wore... how are we feeling about this orange lewk?

AHHH THANK YOU
DeleteJack "only" on screen for six minutes????? That makes this one of the most Jack-heavy episodes of season 6. Plus this ep really goes out of its way to make sure that the Jack-David 'romance' is as unromantic and sterile as possible -- note that Jack got exactly ONE kiss per season - in 05 it was the fumbled attempted kiss by Erik the frat boy, and in 06, it is a peck ... at a freaking STI clinic. Jeez, Louise! (this is why I don't count the finale as part of season 06. #NoSpoilersForCharles Our boy gets an actual kiss in the finale.)
ReplyDeleteThat is all so true! What a joke. And I really like David as a character, would much prefer scenes from him rather than CJ or Natasha or Jack Osborne!
Delete#1-Very much agree that it is very frustrating to have Jen portrayed as not competent. She is a sage friend and wise because of her experiences. Writers: she does not need to act naive and need CJ’s guidance to be able to begin a relationship with him. Jen is probably the most changed in character from the early series writing. 😑
ReplyDelete#2- Maybe Charles’ bet about 6-13 being the episode Pacey shaves his goatee, should be that he grows a goatee if he’s wrong. 😆
#3- I like all of Charles’ whys!
#4- Bring more Jack McPhee!
YES to #2!
DeleteNot to be dramatic but I'm so glad that you guys are going straight through to the holidays because if you had made as wait until next year for THAT episode I don't think I'd cope. I'm hoping once you get to THAT episode you'll have a lot to say and the podcast will be longer than usual :) I'm more excited to listen to it than I am for Christmas haha
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteThis episode is one of my worst. Just nothing of any substance really happens. All the major characters only interact with the newer (mostly) boring and pointless characters. The de-braining of Jen continues. Yawn.
ReplyDeleteFirst up, I think it's obvious that Jen went to The Stand because they'd hired Jensen Ackles for the entire season and were determined to shoehorn him into plots.
ReplyDeleteIt was SUCH a weird choice for Emma to be the person who brings "the old Pacey" back. Especially since she's literally the only person who doesn't already know the old Pacey, so why not use someone who actually misses that guy instead of someone who has never met him? (And if he has to have a deep and meaningful with his roommate, why not at their apartment?) It was such a missed opportunity to have main cast interacting because what if Pacey had gone to the aquarium and run into Jen instead? What if she was mooching around feeling bad about her struggles on the helpline, and he was wondering why he was so committed to becoming a stockbro, and they saw each other there and had a heart-to-heart - in which he could have buoyed her up by reminding her that she's actually always been great at giving advice (because one thing Pacey has always been good at is encouraging other people, especially women) and she could have reminded him of the good guy he used to be, and encouraged him to be more true to himself (and asked him who exactly he was trying to impress - which I think is actually his father although he'd struggle to admit it). They would have helped each other, and Jen would have gained confidence to go back to The Stand and try again while Pacey could go back to work and try to figure out whether he actually wants to pursue that line of work or not. (Perhaps a story point where he has helped someone in a positive way through his work, to encourage him to persist in it.) So many opportunities squandered here.
I would prefer this storyline x a million! Interaction between the main cast is what has made this series so bad so far.
DeleteThat's a really good point about Emma ... also, 6x12 = no interactions between Pacey and Emma, and both of them are in the episode! The writers abandoned that real fast...
DeleteThey either realised really quickly that it wasn't going to work, or they'd just come up with the idea for another romantic storyline for Pacey and decided to veer away from Emma and head towards a far more interesting and infinitely preferable option. Only two episodes to go until the show starts picking up again (aka the point where I start watching season 6).
Deleteoh wow, I would have LOVED that scenario!!!!! jen needs more love and decent/happy storylines, and I've always loved her friendship with pacey. I wish we could see more of it.
